Me, as a traveller myself, know how hard it is to stay at home all the time without knowing when to book your next trip. That’s why I decided to make a list for every traveller during isolation and how to handle it. Everything will pass and now we have time to be more productive, more creative, more in tune with ourselves. So if you still have a little free time despite all the me-time you are enjoying – keep on reading and find these awesome ways to travel without travelling!
Remember all the places you’ve been and revise photos
This is my favourite one especially if you are crazy about Instagram like me! That way you can remember all the places you’ve been and how blessed you are because of that. Also, you can find photos that you forgot you’ve taken and to bring wonderful memories from the past. Every time I browse my old photos from a trip I immediately go there in my mind. And feel all the feelings from when I was there. The best part is that you forget all the nasty things(if there are some) and you are left with only amazing memories.
So if you haven’t already – try it. Make a list of all the places you’ve been and go there with all of your photos from that trip. It will be worth it! I promise.
Create an itinerary for your next trip
After you are done with the task above it’s time to go in the future. They say that only by thinking of your next trip and planning it your levels of happiness rise and you feel better. So this is a bit like a remedy if you feel a bit low because of the situation we are in.
The idea here, traveller of mine, who is trying to handle the isolation, is that you have to plan your next trip for real! As if you already have the tickets and you have to create the whole itinerary day by day. Read articles, watch videos, write your program. Everything you would do if you were about to take off to this dreamy place of yours.
You will not only feel better but you will have your program ready for the trip when everything is over.
Travel from home
And your best friend here becomes Google Maps and its option Street View – with them you can go anywhere and feel yourself walking the streets. Also, you can add some museums during your trip. Some really famous offer virtual tours right now.
You can check them via these links:
- THE LOUVRE
- THE SOLOMON R. GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM
- THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART
- THE BRITISH MUSEUM
- SMITHSONIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY
- THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART
- THE DALÍ THEATRE-MUSEUM
- NASA – offers free virtual tours of the Langley Research Center in Virginia and Ohio’s Glenn Research Center.
- THE VATICAN MUSEUMS
- THE NATIONAL WOMEN’S HISTORY MUSEUM
- THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE UNITED STATES AIR FORCE
- THE GOOGLE ART PROJECT
Create a travel bucket list
Another fun activity you can do. If you haven’t already. List all of the places you want to visit in your life and try to find more locations worth visiting. You can combine this one with the first idea and create itineraries for the next places you will visit.
As a person who did this a couple of years ago, I can tell you that when you start writing your list you begin to find tons of places you didn’t even know existed. It is really fun!
Maybe you want to go to Bali, or Rome, or see the epic Eiffel Tower? Do an online research and find how beautiful this world actually is!
Watch movies/read books for your next destination
Again something connected to the first point from our list – choose your next destination and start learning everything about it you can. Watch movies that are shot there. Read a book which story is happening there. The vibe of the place will be so strong as if you really visited it.
And these are my top ideas for a traveller during isolation and how to handle it! Do you have your own ways of dealing with the “stay home” moments? Share them in the comments below!
