When I put my mind into something I get really crazy about it. That’s why it took me a couple of hours on the 25th of March to get how Pinterest works and to open my account and update it completely. Here are the steps I took to gain 1000 Pinterest followers in actually less than a week.
1. Shared my profile on Instagram where I have thousands of people following me
and before you accuse me of lying to you with the title of the post – I got around 10 new people from there to my Pinterest account. But they were enough for me to feel a bit more confident and keep up with doing more… So if you have any other social accounts – Instagram, Facebook, your blog.. use them! Post a story or in your feed, just inform people you have a new place to play. Maybe you have similar people like you there and you don’t even know it.
And since we are talking about it now you can go to my Pinterest profile and follow me – Just click here.
2. Updated my whole profile and converted it to Business.
Converting it to a business account gives you the ability to see analytics and also gives you amazing cover at the top of your profile(you can choose which board of yours to be displayed there).
I also changed my name and used keywords in it so people can see right away what I will post. So since I’m interested in Travel stuff I added Travel Blogger in my name. Updated my info with more details what I will offer in my profile and who am I. You have 160 characters so use them fully. There is no second chance to make a first impression.
3. Created 20+ boards and added thumbnails
The truth is I just enjoy seeing everything synced and adding categories like boards and thumbs to them just made me feel good. Boards for me are like putting everything in order and making it pretty. But when someone else sees this type of profile they know that the person behind it is serious and will keep on adding new content. So they follow.
And now you probably wonder How The hell did she change her thumbs?!
You have to pin the cover in the same board where you want to put it as a thumbnail. And then go to edit this board and choose the picture. Voila!
The actual images I made in Photoshop.

4. Started pinning like crazy with Tailwind
This was a game-changer. Even though I was spending a couple of hours a day(don’t tell my boss) on Pinterest, I couldn’t pin all the time. Which is crucial to making your profile more visible to others. So finding Tailwind was like heaven. It analyzes your public and gives you the exact hours when to pin. So you can schedule your future pins all at once and enjoy your free time while your profile is exploding by itself.
First I started with the free trial. They give you 100 pins. Added the extension for Chrome and made my life even easier. Added myself to some Tribes where I can find more perfect content for my profile. But I was so hooked that after 1-2 days(not even at the end of my trial period) I upgraded to the full version. Got even a discount(one month free) just by following a link from someone else’s profile.
So if you want one-month free full use of this amazing platform ($15 credit) – click here and enjoy!
Firstly I started with 15-20pins/day but in a couple of days increased them to 30-40. Now a couple of days later I decided to increase them up to 50-60/day. And will just observe and see if there is any difference.
Here are my stats so far – 2 weeks progress:

5. Started following tons of accounts
Pinterest is not like social media. It is a search engine. So nobody cares how many profiles you follow and if they are less or more than the people that follow you. So I decided to add as many as possible(well until I got bored) accounts that were same as mine – Travel oriented. This way I could easily find content for myself and also help a buddy with +1 follow from me. But be careful because if you add too many profiles that have nothing in common with your targeted audience they won’t be active.
There are some limits and if you add more people than it’s allowed (I think it was 100+) Pinterest won’t add them to your profile.
But come on, Millita, tell the people where you find more users to follow? Well, you just go to a similar profile to yours and open the Followers tab. Here you go. Tons of people ready to be added from you. You can also open a Group Board and add/find similar profiles to yours.
So maybe I had 2500 following when I hit 1000 Pinterest followers. In just 6-7 days. After that, I just stopped because the hardest part was done – first 1000 people were mine.
Also, I kept on analyzing other profiles and saw that actually there are people with fewer followers that are getting bigger activity. So at the end of the day, the followers don’t matter at all. You just have to be active and repin only high-quality content.
Update 2020:
Now I have more than 2000people with no effort at all. But what I’ve noticed is that it doesn’t matter how many people follow you with the updated algorithm. Most important thing is to reach new users and the easiest way right now is through Tailwind Tribes – there people have to reshare your posts so it is way better than Group boards where nobody reshares anymore. Go check it out for free and see for yourself!
